The fifth edition of the Costa Brava Stage Run (CBSR) that will take place between April 14 and 16, 2023 opens registration this Friday at nine in the morning. It is a stage race that runs through the most spectacular landscapes of the Costa Brava for three days. It is an event organized by BiFree with the support of Tuga Active Wear and the Patronat de Turisme Costa Brava Pirineu.

A complete experience

After the success of the last edition, in which the bibs were sold out, the CBSR is preparing to once again offer a complete experience to its participants. This is not just a stage race, it is a combination of passion for sport and nature. Along with registration, the organization also offers a series of services so that runners only have to worry about running and enjoying a full-fledged adventure during the three days of the race.

Thus, in addition to the runner's bag, the marking of the route and the supplies; the registration also includes all the photos of the event, recovery massage at the end of each stage, live tracking, luggage transport, runner's guide, route tracks, medical service and accident insurance. In addition, BiFree offers the possibility of registering to the “Full Experience”, which also includes accommodation and meals.

It should also be noted that this year the organizers have invited the male and female winners of the 2022 edition. And they will also invite the four runners who have participated in all the organized editions to celebrate the fifth edition in this way.

A spectacular route

The CBSR follows the paths of the GR-92 and Camí de Ronda, and consists of two distances: one of 120 and another of 80 kilometres. Both share the first stage, from Blanes to Tossa de Mar (22 km and 900 meters of positive elevation gain). The second stage of the long distance runs from Platja d'Aro to l'Estartit (48 km and 1,600 meters of positive elevation gain) and the 80 km stage begins further on, in Calella de Palafrugell to also finish in l'Estartit (30 km and 1,200 positive meters).

Finally, the third long stage goes from Roses to Portbou (48 km and 1,500 meters of elevation gain) and the short stage begins further on, in Cadaqués, to also finish in Portbou (29 km and 900 meters of elevation gain).

A major logistical challenge

In fact, the CBSR is much more than a stage race. It is an unforgettable experience in which all the participants (many from abroad) can enjoy sport while living and discovering the Costa Brava from within. For this active tourism experience to be excellent, the organization also has to be excellent, and this is precisely what BiFree has proposed.

The fact that the distance is linear and not circular implies building a start every morning and the same happens with the finish line of each stage that is prepared with great enthusiasm every day to receive the runners as they deserve.

On the other hand, you have to organize the accommodation and move the luggage of the participants and the staff every day from town to town. In total, about 260 daily accommodations are managed for runners. In addition, all CBSR registrants will enjoy the audiovisual material created during the day with the photographs and the video with the spectacular summary of the stage. All this ends with a daily ceremony of the stage winners and race leaders.

These operational logistics would not be possible without the support of the 60 volunteers who give everything to make the CBSR a success. One more year, BiFree and all the other collaborators that make this event a reality have already started working to guarantee that all those who register for the race have a great experience.
